We are proud to announce that we are working on a project "Proof of Concept for Compact Multispectral Imaging Camera for Space Application" for the European Space Agency - ESA. The main objective of the project is the development of a multispectral imaging camera for space application by combining a single image sensor and multiplexed illumination with advanced image processing. This combination enables creating high-quality multispectral images and using a single image sensor provides cost efficiency and simplicity.
Multispectral imaging systems capture data at specific frequencies across the electromagnetic spectrum. The wavelengths may be separated by filters or instruments which are sensitive to specific wavelengths, including light from frequencies beyond our visible sight, such as infrared or ultraviolet. Therefore, multispectral imaging systems allow extraction of additional information which the human eye fails to capture.
Multispectral imaging in space application has been used for almost 40 years. Over time, constant development of multispectral imaging systems migrated them from ultra-high-end systems into machine vision cameras offering combinations of resolution, frame rates, and prices that enable them to be used for a wide range of multispectral applications.
In this project, the focus is on a camera-based multispectral imaging technique with single-sensor and multiplexed illumination. The scope of this project includes defining requirements, conceptual design and a trade-off analysis. This is INETEC’s third project with the European Space Agency and we are pleased to cooperate on a new project with them once again. More information coming soon. Stay tuned.
