"I don’t care that they stole my idea. I care that they don’t have any of their own." - Nikola Tesla, whose birthday we celebrate today.
Nikola Tesla was a world-famous engineer, inventor and futurist born in Smiljan (modern-day Croatia) on the 10th of July 1856 and died on the 7th of January 1943 in New York City.
He is best known for his work on the alternating current (AC) electricity supply system, that is, he discovered the rotating magnetic field, which is the foundation of alternating-current machinery. Nikola Tesla also developed the three-phase system of electric power transmission and invented an induction coil used in radio technology that was named the Tesla coil. Apart from that, Tesla has been granted more than 300 other patents in various scientific fields.
Due to his futuristic vision and abundant contribution to science, many consider him a genius. His life story also found its way to many books and movies and his portrait is featured on Croatia's recently introduced euro coin.
